St Davids, Ontario
When it comes to marketing product, Garden City Growers Inc. tries to be a little different to the market. “By offering upgraded containers, bows and picks, we can transform an ordinary African Violet into an on-display gift item,” says owner Ted VanderKaay.
In the early 1970’s the VanderKaay family emigrated from the Netherlands to the St. Catharines area, Ontario’s Garden City. There they began to build a reputation for providing consistent quality products by combing four generations of Dutch horticultural know how with North American technology.
Garden City Growers Inc. grew from Ted’s fathers company, Garden City Greenhouses. It started off as a 60,000squar-foot greenhouse and has expanded into 240,000 sq.’ facility. The two companies maintain a close relationship in which they use resources like space and plants between the two companies.
“We understand our customers and anticipate their wants and needs for a quality plant that is appealing but also one that sells.”
