Van Noort Florists Inc.
VanNoort Florist was established in 1961 by Harry and Rita VanNoort in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. The VanNoort’s came to NOTL from Markham. In Markham, Harry was employed by his uncle who owned and operated a cut flower operation and retail location. The operation that Harry purchased in NOTL was geared to produce cut flowers for sale mainly to wholesalers. With Harry’s experience in floral design, the operation was expanded to include a retail shop and more direct sales to local flower shops. Harry focused on cut mums, commercials, carnations, freesia and cut and potted bulbs such as Iris, daffodils and hyacinths. Seasonal potted plants such as poinsettias, hydrangeas, potted mums and geraniums were also produced. Harry always took pride in producing high quality flowers for his customers, a tradition that continues today.
In 1986, Harry’s eldest son Robert and his wife Sharon took the reigns of the business. Cut flower and potted plant production is now streamlined and focuses on cut alstroemeria, cut gerbera, and cut Asiatic and oriental lilies. As for potted plants, VanNoort focuses on cyclamen and hydrangeas.
In 1995, Robert expanded the production space by about 75% and further expanded his business as a wholesaler under the name of WillowCreek Floral. The VanNoorts now service floral shops through WillowCreek Floral from Fort Erie to Vaughan with a focus on selling high quality flowers. VanNoort Florists can proudly stand behind their name as all flowers sold through their WillowCreek division are produced by the VanNoorts or other quality local growers. The family still owns and operates VanNoort Florists and they celebrated their 50th year in business this year.
